As a child I lived across the street from busy railroad tracks. I learned to fall asleep to the sound of the trains going by nightly.

I have to admit that the Kookaburras have triggered the most conversations in our home. Being in the United States we don’t see many of them here.

We did a VBS program several years back called “Adventures in Outback Odyssey” and one of the songs was about a kookaburra. We all burst into song when we see the pictures.

To pick a winner is very difficult. There were so many wonderful ones but if I most I cast my vote for the flowers, all of them were vivid and popped right off the screen and made me think I could almost touch and smell them.

Dear Kathy,

Gorgeous photo… reminded me of
pelicans I saw at the Oregon Coast, flying together just above the waves. Amazing creatures. This poem was inspired by them.

Pelicans

Troubadours
Airborne units fly in formation
Low
Heavy
Skimming the space between sea
And sky
Mammoth
undeniable, like
Heat-seeking missiles
Transcending the deep
And drawing up fish.

Yes, it is Sherry, isn’t it? I guess we don’t think of animals and birds experiencing love but it is evident when we look for it.
