I dropped into Lysterfield Lake Park one day during the week as I had to pass by doing a pick up.  So I thought why not do my daily walk there, I’m sure to see something interesting!  I nearly despaired of not seeing a bird or a wallaby or kanagaroo after a half hour of walking – I could hear the birds but none near enough to focus on.  So I headed down to the lake beach and there spied a young kangaroo on its own.  I loved the pose with its head up and ears in different directions but after it decided I was getting too close it took off. Here are a couple of shots from that day.

One day I went for a walk at Lysterfield Lake Park which is not far from where we live.  I ventured down to the beach by the lake and as I walked near the bushes I heard a rustling and 3 kangaroos hopped out and bounded down along the beach.  Here are some shots from that day.

A discussion on the APF forum I belong to was about what was holding the attention of these kookaburras?  Usually when there are a number together they are looking in different directions for food but not all in the same direction and not usually up either.

There was the most gorgeous sunrise yesterday and I spied these three all looking towards the sun as it rose. You can see the glint on the trees in the background.  But would birds watch a sunrise? What do you suppose they were all watching?

Was out for a walk with my daughter the other evening and spied this Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo in a tree, coo-ing and making loud noises.

Thought this was cute – two little red-browed firetails sitting on the wire fence together, just surveying their surroundings.

Got it!  He decided he’d grab it anyway.

I throw out fruit and bread scraps onto our back lawn for the birds a few times a week. I don’t want them dependent on us for food but at the same time I don’t want to waste food that something could be eating.  Two magpies spied the bread this past week and watched me carefully as they made their way towards the bread.  I love using my new longer lens to get a good close up.

One of the great things with being outside every day with a longer lens is that I’m discovering birdlife I didn’t know existed, let alone on our own property.  The two bird identifier posters in our dining room, left by the previous owners, have been great for my bird ID education.

This is a silver-eye, seen inside the willow tree and is very tiny, like a finch.

Today is Australia Day, a public holiday here in Australia with barbeques, Australia Day Honours Ceremonies the country wide and people just enjoying the Australian Summer.
